Jury selection set to begin in death of Orestes 'West' Garza

LEVELLAND, TX (KCBD) - The jury selection is set to begin on Monday in the trial of 56-year-old Pete Garcia, who is accused of shooting Orestes "West" Garza in 2016.

Garcia is accused of shooting Garza outside of Lubbock's St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, located at 2316 Broadway, on Feb. 7, 2016. It was said by Garcia's ex-wife, Judy Garcia, he had shot Garza while he was walking with her to the church's parking lot.

Garcia then fled the scene and was later arrested at a house in Levelland, according to the Levelland & Hockley County News-Press. Since his arrested he has been in the Lubbock County Detention Center, held on a $1 million bond.

The trial is set to take place in the 364th District Court in the Lubbock County Courthouse.
