Lubbock has been named the second most conservative city in the nation.

The Bay Area Center for Voting Research ranked the political leanings of American cities with populations of 100,000-plus. Lubbock ranks second on the list for most conservative, right under Provo, Utah. Abilene comes in third. The most liberal voters are in Detroit, Michigan.

NewsChannel 11 did some research of our own and found the ranking to be consistent with the last election. In March 2004, Lubbock voters cast nearly 110,000 Republican votes and only 5,000 Democratic votes.
