The city council is set to vote to upgrade the school zone beacon system on Thursday.
The city says the hardware and other equipment that is currently used is no longer manufactured and can no longer be maintained.
The Traffic Operations Department builds and maintains school zone beacons for all school zones within the city limits, which include Lubbock Independent School District, Frenship Independent School District, and Lubbock Cooper Independent School District.
The cost of the improvements will total $163,793.
