LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock officially hit 102 degrees on Friday at 3:55 p.m., surpassing the previous record of 101 set in 2000.
Midland and Amarillo also record highs of 102 and 99 on Friday afternoon.
Saturday could be a third day of record heat in the region.
Expect scattered clouds with a slim chance of rain through Friday evening and that chance will be best in the eastern south plains.
The winds will remain gusty and dry Saturday as temps move to around the century mark. A few showers or storms may try to develop along the dryline.
The best chance for rain will come on Sunday evening and then Monday through Wednesday. Some of the storms, on an isolated basis, could be severe, with high winds and hail on Sunday and Monday.
Expect cooler temps for Mother's Day and next week.
