LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - There was a wonderful welcome home Saturday during Texas Tech University's Health Sciences Center graduation at the United Supermarkets Arena.

Krislyn Perkins was watching a special surprise message from her dad as she was getting ready to walk to the stage to get her diploma from the school of nursing. Her dad, U.S. Army Captain Andrew Baer has been deployed to Puerto Rico.

Krislyn thought this would be the only way he would be able to participate in her graduation.

That was until she spotted him across the arena. He walked on stage to greet her with a big hug.

Captain Baer knows his daughter isn't fond of surprises, but she said this was a good one.

Baer was able to get an early flight Friday morning and travel late into the night to make it for his daughter's special day.

Krislyn says her dad's service has served as a great example for her sons but Captain Baer says his daughter is one that has sacrificed and made him proud.

Captain Baer is now preparing to deploy to Central America for nine months.

We thank him for his service and congratulate Krislyn on her accomplishments.
