LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Another record-tying high in Lubbock on Thursday as the thermometer soared to 102 degrees.

That daily high tied the previous record that was set in 1916.

Looking ahead to the next few days it will be hot, then cooler for the weekend. The record high for Lubbock on Friday is 107 degrees, which was set in 1998. We may tie or exceed that record on Friday before we 'cool' to the mid 90s on Saturday.

The heat continues to be dangerous so please take note of the following safety suggestions.

If outdoors for any length of time, please remember the following Heat Safety Tips.

1) Reduce outdoor activity

2) Drink plenty of water

3) Take frequent breaks

4) Wear light colored clothing which reflects sunlight

5) Reduce outdoor strenuous activities to early morning or evening

6) Wear a hat, long sleeved shirts and use sunscreen of 50 or higher.

Remember to never leave kids or pets unattended in vehicles.  LOOK before you LOCK!

A weak cold front moving into the area on Saturday will bring gusty north winds and the afternoon highs will stay in the mid 90s in Lubbock. That front may also provide additional cooling on Sunday with highs in the mid to upper 80s across the area and a chance for some isolated storms.
