LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A Lubbock family is hosting its annual fundraiser to bring awareness to suicide and mental health.
Riley Reding was 21 years old when he took his life three years ago. His mother, Renee Reding Ross, says they had no idea that would ever happen. To keep her son's memory alive and to help other families, they started hosting the Riley Reding Memorial Dinner/Golf Balls from Heaven benefit.
Tickets are still available for this year's event on August 7th. Texas Tech Men's Basketball coach Chris Beard is the featured speaker that night. There will also be a helicopter golf ball drop.
The benefit dinner is at Cagle Steaks & BBQ at 6:30 pm. The cost is $25 per dinner and $20 per ball. The winner will receive one-fourth of the total golf ball contributions.
Riley was a certified firefighter, EMT tech, scuba diver and golfer. Proceeds from the dinner and golf ball drop will provide scholarships benefiting local fire academies.
As of June 21st, they have sold 511 golf ball out of their goal of 2,000. There are also 150 spots left for the dinner.
You can purchase tickets and golf balls by contacting rwrMemorial93@gmail.com or by calling (806) 781-6464. Checks can be mailed to 8303 CR 6920 Lubbock, TX 79407.
