LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The investigation continues into a fatal accident that killed an 18-year-old cyclist near 11th Street and Slide Road early Thursday morning.

Police say the driver, 23-year-old Laura Reynolds, hit the victim just after 2 a.m. Thursday morning near the Red Bud shopping center. Reynolds was arrested for DWI and remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center.

Upon arrival, officers located the victim, 18-year-old Davion Boswell, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police say Boswell was riding a bicycle southbound on Slide Road when he was hit.

According to the police report, Reynolds told officers she was driving home from a local bar when Boswell, "came out of nowhere." Reynolds says she pulled over and called police after the collision. She told the officer she had one drink before getting behind the wheel.

Police conducted a field-sobriety test on Reynolds and said she was unbalanced and displayed signs of being intoxicated.

Reynolds was placed under arrest and taken to University Medical Center to have blood drawn, according to an LPD police report, before being detained in the Lubbock County Detention Center. Police are still waiting on those blood test results.

Detectives in LPD's Accident Investigation Unit shut down both north and southbound lanes of Slide Road, from 4th to 13th Street on Friday morning. Lanes were back open as of 10:30 a.m.

The investigation is on-going and additional charges are possible.
