LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The 2018 Texas South Plains Honor Flight telethon ended Tuesday and a total of $47,543 was raised.

The Texas South Plains Honor Flight is a chapter of the Honor Flight Network with 131 hubs in 41 states. Its goal is to send as many veterans to Washington D.C. to pay homage to their fellow brothers and sister in arms by visiting the War and Service Memorials built in their honor.

Honor flight takes veterans across the South Plains to the nation's capital at no charge. This experience is made possible by generous donations from the community.

Throughout Tuesday more than $32,000 was raised from the KCBD NewsChannel 11 call center and more than $15,000 was raised from checks donors brought in during the day.

Donations are still wanted, however, and those can be made here.
