LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock Police Department detectives are asking for the public's help in solving a June 26th shooting that injured a 12-year-old child and eight month old baby.

Through the investigation, detectives believe the home in the 2200 block of 87th Street was targeted during a drive-by shooting on the night of June 26th. Multiple shots were fired from the street toward the home by a suspect or suspects fleeing the area in a vehicle.

Several of those bullets traveled into the house injuring two of the five children inside. A 12-year-old girl remains in the hospital in critical condition. An eight-month-old baby had minor injuries. Family members say the 12-year-old, Alizea Vela, was shielding her 8-month-old nephew and she was shot in the back.

The 12-year-old's mother died on July 2, on her one-month wedding anniversary, after battling a serious disease. Her parents were married in the hospital on June 2, 2018.

While LPD has received several Crime Line tips related to the shooting, LPD Crimes Against Children detectives are hoping someone with more information will come forward about the suspect or suspects.

Even if the information seems insignificant, the smallest of details can help break cases wide open. People with information on this case are asked to call Crime Line at (806)741-1000. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.

A GoFundMe account has been set up for the family.
