LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock Police Department detectives have arrested and charged a 13-year-old male with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection to the shooting of a 16-year-old male early Tuesday morning.
Just after midnight on July 10th, LPD officers responded to the area of 1500 29th Place for reports of a disturbance. Responding officers located a 16-year-old gunshot victim. He was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Through the course of the investigation by Crimes Against Children detectives, it became clear initial information given to officers was false. Originally, officers were told three juveniles were walking home in the 1100 block of 31st Street when a fourth unknown person began shooting at them.
Detectives were able to quickly determine there was not a fourth person involved and the shooting was not random. They also determined the shooting did not occur where originally stated, and it is still unclear where the incident took place.
As more details surfaced, the 13-year-old male who was with the victim the night of the shooting was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
This case remains under investigation by LPD's Crimes Against Children Unit.
