LITTLEFIELD, TX (KCBD) - A child is being treated for injuries at Covenant Children's and her mother is now behind bars.

Littlefield Police say they responded to a call of a woman screaming and a child crying in the 400 block of Weidel Street Sunday afternoon. When they arrived, officers heard the cries coming from the house. One officer also heard the sound of physical blows.

Officers forced entry into the house and found a six year old victim in one of the bedrooms with a large laceration to one of her arms, a swollen face and cuts to her forehead. The child's mother, 27 year old Labrea Monique Collins, was arrested and booked into the Lamb County Jail.

Police say the child was taken to the Lamb Healthcare Center by ambulance, and was later transferred to Covenant Children's for treatment of possible internal injuries.
