SNYDER, TX (KCBD) - On October 7, 1876, J. Wright Mooar was hunting when he killed a rare white buffalo.

Mooar's family, current residents of Snyder, still has the hide.

Now, every first weekend of October, the community of Snyder celebrates White Buffalo Day.

"I know that we're an oilfield town, but the white buffalo has branded us also," says Linda Molina with the Snyder Chamber of Commerce. "It is a brand. People know us as the white buffalo town. It's been a blessing... It's just something that is always gonna be there."
