Peanuts fuel Terry County economy

BROWNFIELD, TX (KCBD) - In Brownfield, Birdsong Peanuts has been making a positive financial impact since the late 1990s. Michael Franke, the general manager, said the peanut shelling facility in Brownfield is the largest one west of the Mississippi River.

Many of the peanuts that are grown in Brownfield are sold domestically, but they also distribute internationally.

"It's kind of neat to be able to think that a little part of Brownfield, Texas could end up in Spain, or in Europe or no telling where," Franke said.

Birdsong Peanuts is one of the top employers in Terry County. It contributes funds to the school district, the hospital and the county itself.
