Diesel tanker explodes in fireball on I20 in Sweetwater

SWEETWATER, TX (KCBD) - Smoke and flames were visible for miles as an 18-wheeler carrying diesel fuel caught fire on I-20 in Sweetwater on Thursday.

The driver of that semi was airlifted to University Medical Center.

DPS says the wreck happened near the TA Truck Stop around noon.

The semi was towing a tanker with diesel fuel when it went off the road and caught fire.

Witnesses say they heard an explosion as a fireball erupted in the air.

Viewer video shows the fire and billowing smoke near an overpass.

The driver has been identified as 26-year-old Josh Winegeart of Sweetwater. We're working to find out his current condition as of Thursday night.
