2 killed in 2-vehicle crash south of Abilene

ABILENE, TX (KCBD) - Two people were killed in a two-vehicle crash in Taylor County south of Abilene on Friday afternoon.

DPS says Michael Frank Barker, 49, of Abilene and Joseph Alfred Silvas, 35, of Abilene both died after a 2011 Buick Regal driven by Barker failed to yield right of way to a 2006 Dodge Pickup towing a trailer.

DPS says the Buick was traveling east on Remington Road while the Dodge pickup was traveling north on US 83 at 3:52 p.m. The Buick failed to yield right of way to the truck as it pulled out onto US 83 from Remington Road in front of it. The truck struck the Buick on the passenger side.

Barker, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at Abilene Regional Hospital.

His passenger, Joseph Alfred Silvas, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge received a minor injury and was treated and released.
