(KCBD) - The Texas Education Agency has released a list of grades assigned to all school districts in Texas, grading each A-F and schools around the South Plains scored slightly above average.

The TEA has imposed this grading system as a way to judge school performances around the state, according to The Texas Tribune. The system is based off subcategories that look at the improved performance on standardized tests and how well students are performing at their school in comparison to schools around them.

Scores around the South Plains ranged from the mid-90s to the high-60s. Averaged out, the score for schools in the South Plains was around an 82. The scores significance is to provide an accurate depiction of schools performances, Mike Morath, TEA commissioner, told the Tribune.

However, some school districts are seeing this new rating system as less positive. On Monday the Lubbock-Cooper School District released an official statement saying the rating system, which is based on students performances of the standardized STAAR test, is not the best way to show how well a district's students are learning.

"Moving forward, we will accept the rating we receive as an arbitrary measurement with no effect on the way we teach, protect, encourage, and love our students," Sadie Alderson, director of public information for LCISD, wrote to KCBD NewsChannel 11. "We will continue our tradition of excellence with the support of our community, and we will continue fighting for a community-based accountability system that appropriately measures the strengths, weaknesses, and needs of all students, regardless of background, ZIP code, or socioeconomic status."

The complete list of school districts rating can be found on the TEA's website here.

KCBD has compiled a list of schools around the area, that can be found here:
