Residents say fence dispute led to neighborhood shooting

Residents react to neighborhood shooting

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A 46-year-old Lubbock man is currently in the hospital after police say he was shot by his neighbor on Monday afternoon.

Police say this was an ongoing feud between next-door neighbors that led to both sides firing shots.

Neighborhood residents tell us the quarrel was over property.

"We heard an audible gun shot and I saw the folks that live across the street on 92nd and P started running across their yard. They jumped into their pickup, drove over and gentleman got out and said he had been shot," Suzanne Chambers said.

Chambers has lived in the area for years. She says it was a typical afternoon until her neighbor drove up and told her he had just been shot by his next-door neighbor.

"I was totally flabbergasted when the gentleman got out of his vehicle and said it was a gunshot, that he had been hit with bird-shots," Chambers said. "I was floored because I've lived out here for 12 years and it's a safe neighborhood."

Chambers and other residents say this dispute is nothing new. They say these neighbors have been fighting over property lines for a while.

"Apparently there was a property dispute going on over there and he was building a fence. His neighbor told him don't build that fence it's my property and they wild wild west it," she said.

Neighbors never expected the dispute to become violent.

"You would think that these types of things would be handled in court, in the legal system," Chambers said. "Now for two people to shoot at each other, I never expected that."

As the police continue to investigate. Neighbors are left wondering what happened.

"It's kind of strange it happened the way it did and I still don't know the truth," resident Wanda Pulliam said. "I only know what we hear so I don't know if that's what happened."
