Arrington, Hance issues statements on McCain’s death

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - District 19 congressman Jodey Arrington has a released a statement on the death of John McCain.

Arrington said:"America lost a unique leader in John McCain who not only served, but suffered for his fellow countrymen. From the skies over Vietnam to the halls of Congress, Senator McCain earned the title of patriot spending his entire adult life fighting for freedom and a better future for our nation. I admired his fierce independence, thoughtfulness, and unquenchable love of country. His family will be in our thoughts and prayers."

Kent Hance the former chancellor for the Texas Tech University System took to social media Saturday and Sunday sharing memories about the senator and veteran.

Hance tweeted, "My friend Senator John McCain has died. I served with him in Congress. He was always a gentleman, even when we disagreed. He was a POW for 5 1/2 yrs. and tortured everyday. He was a complicated man who loved his country at all times. A true patriot!!!"

MCain died Saturday after losing a battle to brain cancer.
