LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Labor Day means more than just a day off to a lot of folks, it's in honor of the labor movement and celebrates the contribution workers make to our country.

The Lubbock Central Labor Council wants to share that message and they did it with an old fashion barbecue.

"Its important to recognize our workers and their contributions to not only our economy, but also our community," Miguel Levario, BBQ attendee and Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress, said. "We are all workers in some way, shape or form."

The Lubbock Central Labor Council supports union workers and wants all workers to benefit by becoming one too

"Its important to be in a union because you have more of a voice to speak with and union members do a better job because they are held to a bigger standard," Miguel Torres said.

While this barbecue is meant to be fun and celebrate Labor Day, the Lubbock Central Labor Council fight for workers will continue every day.

"We are doing it because their families who need it and their kids who need it so they can have more money to put them through college and families need a good comfortable lifestyle," Torres said.
