First Alert Weather: Downpours expected to taper off

A day of heavy rain

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Heavy rain overnight caused some localized flooding in the northeastern KCBD viewing area, while a few rain showers moved through Lubbock. As of this writing Caprock Canyons State Park, where some of the flooding occurred, was up to 3.22" of rain since midnight. The Lubbock airport total at the time was 0.01".

The spotty showers will continue today. While favoring the eastern and central counties, rain is possible anywhere. The atmosphere is primed with a high moisture content for our area, and downpours are likely. Of course, some spots will remain dry. Rain may linger into at least Saturday morning, but the overall potential is expected to be declining as the game gets underway. The greatest chance of rain and possible lightning is before the game, with a slim chance around kick-off, with rain unlikely by the end of the game.

After slightly below average afternoon temperatures today and this weekend, near average readings will return next week as we return to a drier weather pattern.
