Post-game comments will cost Texas Tech Coach Mike Leach $10,000. It's the largest fine in Big Twelve history and is twice the previous high.
Coach Mike Leach says he has no reaction to the ruling. He said he made his feelings known already. Leach says, "We've broke records around here before. We're used to breaking records."
The Big 12 handed down the $10,000 fine along with a public reprimand Tuesday. The punishment stems from the public comments Leach made about the calls officials made during the Red Raider and Longhorns game in Austin Saturday. Leach knew his comments could lead to a fine but hoped to spark some change.
Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe says, "Coach Leach's public statements called into question the integrity and competence of game officials and the conference's officiating program. Accordingly the seriousness of this violation warrants a public reprimand and the largest fine issued to date by the conference."
The Big 12 also stressed that if Leach further violates the rules, he could face suspension.
