New Statue Unveiled at Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport

A statue honoring former Texas Governor Preston Smith now stands at the Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport.

Artist Garland A. Weeks, a Texas Tech University graduate and Fellow of the National Sculpture Society, created the statue, which was funded by individual and corporate donors.

Preston Smith graduated from Texas Technological College in 1934.  He was elected a member of the Texas House of Representatives in 1944, the Texas Senate in 1956, lieutenant governor in 1962, and governor of Texas in 1968.

The Lubbock International Airport was renamed in his honor in 2004. For Your Mobile Devices
