Stonewall Co. Jail escapee captured in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

An escapee from the Stonewall County Jail in Aspermont was captured in Lubbock Monday with the help of Lubbock police.

Shannon Carl McDowell, 32, escaped Sunday. According to Sheriff Bill Mullen in Stonewall County, McDowell jumped a fence in the rec yard about 3 p.m. Deputy noticed him leaving and got authorities involved in search. He was being held on several burglary of habitation charges and was awaiting trial, Mullen said.

LPD and Texas Rangers received a tip that a Stonewall Co. escapee might be in Lubbock.

McDowell was arrested Monday without incident on a city traffic warrant and a felony theft warrant out of Stonewall County.

He will be held in Lubbock County and will likely be extradited back to Stonewall, police say.
