LUBBOCK – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) arrested a suspect Jan. 8, 2013, for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child. The arrest came following an investigation by the Texas Rangers that was initiated after a call from the victim's mother.
Duane Eric West, 28, was arrested late Tuesday night and charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault of a 13-year-old girl. West was released to the Garza County Correctional Facility and a bond of $400,000 was set.
The investigation was initiated on Dec. 31, 2012, after the call from the victim's mother. The Rangers worked with Child Protective Services, who also received a call concerning this assault, and the Kent County Sheriff's Office during this investigation. West worked as a full time deputy with the Kent County Sheriff's Office.
The case has been filed with the District Attorney for Kent County. Any further investigative findings will be given to the District Attorney's Office.
