Some of the most common forms of mental illness may stem from the same genetic source, despite their very different symptoms.
A new study published in the journal lancet looked at genetic data collected from over 30 thousand people with a mental illness, and 27 thousand people without.
It showed schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, autism, major depression and A-D-H-D come from the same D-N-A regions, and share genetic mutations.
While these mutations make it more likely someone will develop a mental illness, the researchers say several other factors determine which disease, if any, develops.
