When asked about the latest developments regarding the city council's new attorney and the future of Lubbock's city manager, Councilman Todd Klein characterized them as a distraction.
Klein says there are many other pressing matters before the council.
"We have generational issues for LP&L. It's not really 2019, it's 2018. We're going to be looking at future generation. We need to be good to go a year before that contract with SPS ends," Klein said.
Tom Riney of Amarillo was hired as outside legal council Thursday..
The mayor doesn't expect the council to vote on anything regarding City Manager Lee Ann Dumbalt before May 1st.
