Lubbock Power & Light issues warning about scam attempts

Provided by Lubbock Power & Light

LP&L is reminding customers to be wary of scammers who impersonate LP&L employees and threaten disconnection of services if immediate payment is not made over the phone.

The scam involves phone calls made by people claiming to be LP&L employees and may demand payment over the phone or demand a call back. LP&L spokesperson Chris Sims said, "LP&L employees do not call customers and demand payment." If an LP&L customer receives a phone call of this nature, do not offer any type of payment. Concerned customers can call LP&L Customer Service during business hours for questions about their account.

Affected customers should call LP&L customer service at 806-775-2509 and report any scamming incident to the Lubbock Police Department.

If customers have given credit card information over the phone to someone posing as an LP&L employee, customers should call their credit card company and follow the credit card company's recommendations.
