Winter weather makes Lubbock 'Ghost Town', affects businesses

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - This winter weather has kept most people home and that has had a big impact on Lubbock businesses.
In fact, many of them have had to make some cut backs with their hours and employees to save money.
Lubbock businesses have had to make some cut backs with their hours and employees to save money.
"We've been open for a year, so business was just picking up, so this weather is not helping our revenue, but we're hanging in there," Maggie Gabriel said.
Maggie Gabriel from Burrito Tower #2, said the winter weather has slowed business down and kept customers at home, especially for a Friday.
"Friday afternoons, parking lots are full, people are coming in and out, but as you can see today is pretty much, empty, so it's been pretty slow and tough today," Gabriel said.
Richard Savoca, general manager of Texas Land and Cattle, said they have been experiencing the same.
He said that some of his employees live in other surrounding towns and the snow has kept them from being able to make it in to work.
"I have some employees that live in Plainview, some employees that live in Wolfforth, they have to drive 20 to 40 minutes and it's tough for them to come in on days like that," Savoca said.
Both Gabriel and Savoca said with this weather, they've had to make some tough decisions such as making cut backs or closing early.
"But for tonight, we are already, besides the people who called off, we're looking to see where we can cut back," Savoca said.
