Lubbock businesses gearing up for graduation parties

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Ashley Wilmer can conjure up entire graduation parties with the merchandise in her store, Party Plus.
"We have table cloths; we have decorations; we have confetti; we have balloons; so anything and everything that you could want for your party, we can provide it for you," Wilmer said.
She said these items are flying off the shelves.
"We had to re-order, especially with the red and black, of course with Tech," Wilmer said. "They had their graduation last weekend. Several of the local high schools – they have those colors as well, so we had to restock."
Wilmer said the graduates walking the stage bring in a steady flow of business. Across town, Justin Zimmerman from Triple J Chophouse said the restaurant has three hectic weekends out of the year.
"There's UT weekend if it's a home game," Zimmerman said. "There's fall graduation and then there's spring graduation."
Zimmerman said people have made reservations as early as a year in advanced, keeping the restaurant full and its employees busy.
"We went through, I think, 260 rib eyes in two days," Zimmerman said. "It's all hands on deck. It's double hands. You can only leave when your replacement gets here."
As Wilmer and Zimmerman prepare their orders and celebrate the extra profit expected from this week, they said they're happy to play a part in each graduate's special day.
"Hopefully, they'll remember their last day in Lubbock or their last meal in Lubbock," Zimmerman said. "If this is it, then we're glad to have them."
