Texas Tech University today announced the completion of its investigation detailing violations of university policies and procedures related to grade changes in the Rawls College of Business.

In August, Texas Tech University Provost Lawrence Schovanec formed an ad hoc committee to look into the matter. The committee delivered its findings in a report to Schovanec in late October.

"At Texas Tech University, we have policies and procedures in place to protect our fundamental academic standards and uphold the central role of the faculty," Schovanec said. "In this instance, the policies supporting these principles were not followed."

Following review of the report, Schovanec met with Lance Nail, dean of the Rawls College. Nail then informed Schovanec of his official resignation as dean, effective December 31.

Nail will remain with the college as a tenured professor of finance and also continue as chairman of the Texas Tech University Innovation Hub at Research Park Board of Directors.

"I want to thank the committee for its comprehensive investigation and thorough report," Schovanec added.

Texas Tech University President M. Duane Nellis acknowledged Schovanec's leadership throughout the process. "The seriousness of the claims warranted a comprehensive examination, and I appreciate the provost and committee for their diligence in this matter."

An innovative and cutting-edge leader in business education, the Rawls College enhanced its profile over the last five years. The college is home to the state's first separately accredited School of Accounting program, while its graduates of the college have consistently experienced a job placement rate of more than 90 percent.

"The Rawls College has made tremendous progress over the past several years thanks to its leadership, faculty, staff and students. I have every confidence this progress will continue," Schovanec said.
