LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Most South Plains businesses count on the holidays to boost their revenue.

So they're anxious to open Thursday night, and help you ring in the New Year after a slow week.

They're just hoping the crowds will come.

In the depot district of downtown Lubbock, local businesses like Triple J's are hoping for a good New Year's Eve crowd.

"You don't realize it, but being shut down that many days, then you're relying on one big day," Triple J's owner Joe Keller said.

He tells us his restaurant experienced a record-breaking shut down.

"At Triple J's we were shut down for six days," he says. "We've never been closed that long. It'll hurt."

So, when a holiday like New Year's Eve approaches, Keller hopes that what he has planned will draw in a big crowd.

"It's been a really good year and you'll feel it at the end," he explains. "When you've been closed nearly a week, it's not good."

But, what is getting Keller through the night? A positive attitude and the staff to accommodate the crowd he's hoping for.

"We're going to be staffed for it, we're going to be ready to be busy," Keller says. "We're going to pretend like it's sunny outside and super busy. If it happens, great, if it doesn't, then that's just what's going to happen."

The roads are still icy and will probably get worse as the night goes on, so if you do plan on going out Thursday night, be sure to use extreme caution on the roads.
