Lubbock band, Element, kicks off Free Summer Concert Showcase

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - For some people who have lived in Lubbock for years, the beginning of the Summer season is marked by the sound of live music in downtown Lubbock.
Event Organizers are preparing for the 16th year of the event.
"We try to make every year the best." says Tonja Hagy-Valdine, Marketing and Special Events Coordinator with the Buddy Holly Center. "We try to introduce music lovers to new talent each year. Not only do we invite local musicians to play, we also try to attract out of town acts. This year is about evenly split; 7 local favorite bands and 7 out of town bands. There is a wide variety of genres for all tastes of music."
Element kicks off the series Thursday night.

- 06/02 Mike Pritchard – Rock & Roll
- 06/09 Wendy Colonna – Folk Rock
- 06/16 Jenni Dale Lord – Americana
- 06/23 Patricia Vonne – Latin Roots Rock
- 06/30 John Sprott – Rock & Roll

Organizers are working to get food trucks available on site for some of the concert nights later on this summer. Hagy-Valdine says, "This year we have acts from Albuquerque, Nashville, Dallas and Austin, in addition to the very talented line-up from right here in Lubbock."
As the local desire for fun food-trucks at events grow, and the music scene develops into something other cities are noticing, organizers are celebrating how the Showcase has become a part of Lubbock history.
Hagy-Valdine says, "Lubbock has really embraced what was already a thriving live music scene, but the variety of venues has grown substantially. We'd like to think that the Buddy Holly Center Summer Showcase Concert Series was a catalyst for some of that."
It is free to the public, the show begins at 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays and goes until 7:30 p.m.
