Severe storm sparks fires, takes down power lines in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A severe storm swept through Lubbock on Wednesday night, accompanied by lightning strikes that caused fires and took out power lines.
We have a report of a grass fire at County Road 5200 and County Road 1600 in northeast Lubbock County, likely caused by lightning.
Power lines are down at 109th and Quaker, with a power line dangling at 79th & Indiana. Traffic in that area is shut down while LP&L repairs the line.
LP&L says, "All crews are currently in the field working on damage from the heavy lightning that accompanied the second round of storms. Heavy lightning is one of the most destructive forces to electrical systems. Please be safe this evening."
If you are currently experiencing an interruption of service, the best way to report it is to text/email your name, address and brief nature of your outage to lightsout@lpandl.com. You may also call 775-2509.
