LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A man is behind bars after narrowly escaping a fiery car crash at 19th and University.

Officials say a car crashed into a utility pole just before 8 a.m. Friday, snapping one of the electrical wires, causing the car to catch on fire.

Police say they responded to a report of a driver slumped over in a silver 2002 Pontiac Grand AM at 7:53 a.m.

The driver was unconscious and appeared to have blood on his face and shirt, so the officer broke the passenger window with his baton.

The driver then woke up and started heading southbound at a high rate of speed, colliding with a power pole and catching the vehicle on fire.

Fortunately, the driver, 18-year-old D'Morea Quashaveante Robinson only suffered moderate injuries.

After treatment, he was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Lubbock police released dashcam video of the incident on Saturday evening.
