Area-wide yard sale brings business to the South Plains
LUBBOCK COUNTY, TX (KCBD) - Residents across the South Plains are already gearing up for the next U.S. Route 62/82 Yard Sale.
Saturday's event kicked off at 9 a.m. and spanned 62 miles, bridging a gap and bringing business to five communities.
For Johnny Fink,Saturday's U.S. Route 62/82 yard sales, which stretched from Idalou, to Lorenzo, Ralls, Crosbyton and all they way out to Dickens, created a way for his family to spend the day together.
"I got my grand kids from Colorado, and my daughter, my sister come out today and helped us," Fink said.
Fink says Saturday's decision to take part in the area-wide yard sale helped bring in new customers for his business, Johnny's Automotive and Sales.
"It seems like they'll come in and they'll want to know about the cars… It actually was a benefit to have the sale today."
While Fink sees Saturday's traffic as a plus, his granddaughters were more excited about the purses and shoes they both got.
Meanwhile, further east in Lorenzo, we found a group who is thankful their 75th annual family reunion took place this weekend.
"We're from all over Texas, but we joined in Idalou to have our family reunion – and we saw on Facebook that there was this 62/82 garage sale, so we all just kind of loaded up to caravan out and see what we could find," Ashley Carr said.
Carr says her family stopped at several sales, in several different towns along the route, and went home with plenty of goodies for everyone.
"We got the kids lots of clothes, we got the baby some stuff – and my husband some shirts."
Carr says if her family has another family reunion during the area-wide yard sale, they will definitely be back.
