LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A Virginia Beach resident is in critical condition at a Lubbock hospital following a hit-and-run crash that happened on April 26, 2018.

According to Lubbock Police Department officials, officers were called to the 1700 block of East 24th Street after reports of a hit and run. When officers arrived, they found a man who needed immediate medical attention. He was taken to Covenant Medical Center with possible life-threatening injuries.

Officers were able to determine through the initial investigation that the victim was driving on east 24th street, while 33-year-old Juan Tanguma was driving a pickup north on Martin Luther King Boulevard, when the two vehicles collided in the intersection.

According to witnesses at the scene, the driver of the pickup, Juan Tanguma, attempted to run from the scene after the crash but was caught by a witness who brought him back to the scene.

A DWI investigation was conducted, and Tanguma was arrested. The name of the Virginia Beach man has not been released to the public at this time. Officials say he was in town for a personal family matter.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
