2 boys die after falling through icy pond

SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (WMTV/Gray News) - Two boys have died after they fell through an icy pond last week in Wisconsin, according to officials.

Officials responded around 3:20 p.m. Friday to a report of two children falling through the ice at a retention pond in Sun Prarie.

Police said in a statement Monday the boys were 6 and 8 years old. WMTV also learned the two boys were brothers.

Authorities were able to remove the boys from the water and determined no one else was in the pond. The boys were taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Sun Prarie police reported on Monday they had learned over the weekend that one of the boys had died. A spokesperson with the City of Sun Prarie confirmed Monday night that the second boy had also died.

“We extend our deepest condolences, wishes and prayers for the family during this terribly tragic time,” the department stated in a release.

A GoFundMe has been set up to support the family’s burial and memorial of the boys.
