2 arrested after leading chase in U-Haul truck

LUBBOCK COUNTY, Texas (KCBD) - Two people are in custody after fleeing from Lubbock authorities in a U-Haul truck early Friday morning.

A DPS trooper tried to pull over a U-Haul for a traffic violation near 98th Street and Hwy. 87. The U-Haul contained two people: 40-year-old Erica Lee Stiggers and 36-year-old Romeo Thomas.

Stiggers did not pull over the truck and drove away from the trooper, resulting in a chase. The pursuit traveled across Lubbock County, from the location of the traffic stop, to East 50th Street and FM 400, where Stiggers turned north.

A deputy with the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Department was able to “deploy a tire deflation tool” and the tires on the left side of the U-Haul were deflated.

Stiggers stopped the vehicle in Lorenzo on Hwy. 62.

Both Stiggers and Thomas were arrested on outstanding warrants.

Online records show Thomas was charged with fraudulent possession of identifying info between 5 to 10 items, possession of drug paraphernalia and no driver’s license.

Stiggers was charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, fraudulent use and possession of identifying information between 5 to 10 items and violation of a promise to appear.

Both people are being held in the Lubbock County Detention Center. As of Friday afternoon, bonds have not been set for either individual.
