LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Lubbock Police are now investigating a second death at the State Supported Living Center.

Officers say a resident was assaulted Monday, eight months after another reported attack left someone else dead.

Police say they were called to the facility on North University around 2:15 p.m.

The Major Crimes Unit reports a resident was attacked and died from their injuries on Friday. That person’s name was not released.

We reported another deadly attack on a resident in the same facility back in June.

Detectives say 53-year-old Paul Reed, a disabled resident, was attacked and left with a severe brain bleed. He died three days later.

Two employees were then arrested and charged in Reed’s attack.

Derrick Bell is charged with intentional injury to a disabled person. Police say he is the one who hit Reed with a shoe.

Natalie Betancurt is charged with injury to a disabled person. Investigators believe she helped Bell cover up the attack.
