5 dead after plane from Amarillo crashes near Austin
AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - 5 people are dead after a small plane crash in Hays County, near Austin.
The Amarillo Pickleball Club have identified the victims as Seren Wilson, Brooke Skypala, Stacy Hedrick, Glen Appling, and Hayden Dillard.
The club says they were on the way to a Pickleball tournament near Austin.
According to the Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra, emergency responders were called around 11:05 p.m. Thursday following reports of an aircraft down in the Wimberley area.
Officials say the plane crashed near Round Rock Road in Hays County.
The aircraft, identified as a Cessna 421C, was confirmed to have crashed with five individuals on board.
Officials say there was one pilot and four passengers aboard the plane.
Authorities have confirmed that all five on board were killed.
Preliminary information indicates the aircraft was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of impact.
Based on current findings, there is no indication of a mid-air collision.
A second aircraft traveling in the vicinity landed safely in New Braunfels.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified and will be leading the investigation into the cause of the crash.
According to flight track data, the aircraft left Amarillo around 9:11 p.m.
This remains an active investigation.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are the lead investigators in the incident.
